All good things must come to an end. I have my last wedding this weekend. It's a hard thing for me, to give up something I love so much. My husband and I are working toward new business adventures and it is time for me to close up the shop. No flowers in 2012. I have enjoyed designing flowers these past 10 years. Bella Grotto

A new reception center is opening up in the Salt Lake Valley. Located at 468 West and 9160 South in Sandy.

A unique venue, very warm and elegant. I was lucky enough to be invited to a social there the other night. I was asked to design two centerpieces for the tables to show off my designs and talent. It was an evening of socializing with other vendors. I was able to make some connections with some great people. To help build my preferred vendor list, and I hope to make theirs as well. I had a list of ideas to choose from for my two centerpieces. And the two I decided on turned out to be a hit. This one was more clean and contemporary. It sure popped with the bright colors and the low lights in the room.

This idea came from my list. I like how different this one is, especially compared to my other centerpiece. It was fun to see people look at my other arrangement and then this one only to find out they were done by the same person. That is was I was going for. It was an opportunity to show my diversity. I received so many compliments, it was fun to hear.

Zannah is my kinda girl. She loves things natural. We came up with some great ideas together, and her unique bridal halo was one of them. I used hyacinth buds and tuber rose buds. Along with some bling and it turned out just beautifully.

Calla Lilies are one of the more expensive wedding flowers. Along with orchids and some of the other tropical flowers. Well worth the extra money. I love the elegance of callas. These mini calla lilies are called Schwartzwalders. They can cast many tones anywhere from black to burgundy, purple to even a dark blue if tinted.

I love the accent of blue in the center of these calla lilies, just a sparkle of blue to add the extra accent color we were looking for. More to come! Thanks for looking.

Remember Sarah's flowers? These were inspired by Sarah's bouquet. Casting a rich tint of blue the Lisianthus and black Calla Lillies worked perfect. The white touch of Stephanodis added the perfect elegant touch of sparkle. And you can't go wrong with feathers.

I absolutely love how this wedding turned out. Completely unique like nothing I have ever designed before. I found the color scheme from one of my favorite designers in California. Substituted a few seasonal flowers and whala. I would love a picture of the bride holding this bouquet so hopefully I'll be able to get one. Bonnie was so easy going and lovely to work with. She let my mind run with ideas. I found the vases and bottles from local thrift stores along with my very own collection. Enjoy the pictures!

Love this bouquet! I got a simple order for a bridal bouquet this past weekend. The colors are different, very antique, but very detailed. We have the dark ranunculas, the peach tulips, the off white spray roses, queen anne's lace, and don't forget the scabiosa pods. Just gorgeous. Thank you for the order Maren!

Time Saver

Ask the techy men about this contraption. If it were up to me and I lived closer I would hand water, but I know that would take up a lot of time. So an efficient watering timer was necessary :) It is hokes up to the faucet and the soaker hose. It will soak the soil for I think forty minutes in the morning and evening.

I think the Carrots and the Zinnias we planted froze in the ground!!! Duds.The sunflowers are popping up and for sure the lettuce and kale are loving being in the ground but we may have to re-plant a few things. Rrrrr!

Wall of Water

We got our tomatoes in this past week.
The forecast showed cold temps and Mikes dad had these wall of waters handy, so we used them to jump start these tomato plants.

Just as we were filling up the wall of waters the water shut off, I guess the community shuts off the water at certain times of the evening. We were out late it was getting dark. So we drove buckets of water from the house and hand filled each one. Sheesh!

Wall of waters are important for a few reasons. They create insulation for cold temperatures, where without them the tomatoes would freeze. Also it creates an extra warm environment for the root systems to get going which is the most important start to a plant. We'll be taking them off of the plants in the next week.

We also got our soak hoses in place for watering. That way we didn't have to worry about checking on the watering everyday during the summer months.

However, as we are still learning with this garden plot thing and watching the pros. all around us. We found out that mounding is not the most successful way of gardening in these extra large garden boxes. We are doing away with the mounds so the soaker hoses are more effective. But other than that we are on the right track!

It is a fundraiser for a couple who has been through a whole lot to adopt a child. It should be fun! Lot's of great things to be raffled.

I bought the square wreath and the wooden FLEURS box separate. I attached the two with regular floral foam and hot glue. I drilled two tiny holes in the front of the box and wired the wreath also for stability. Lots of hot glue will do the trick.

I love how it turned out. The size was about 24 inches tall and 20 inches wide. It is a free standing wreath as well so it could stand on an entryway table or hang on a door like in the first picture.

Man, if I could get paid to design stuff like this everyday I would love it.

Check it out! I got to mess around with some fun things the last few days. I used split peas with lemons. The effect was perfect. I will definitely be using them again and trying some new things. Always!

They raffled off four of my arrangements at the Service Soapbox "Baby Shower" event this weekend. It was a big success and fun to be a part of.

To benefit The March of Dimes and "The Teddy Bear Den" on behalf of families with babies born premature and with birth defects. They work a lot with preventative care which is very effective.

The curly unique flower above was one of conversation. It is called Celosia it is a common annual grown in Utah Gardens the common name for it is cock's comb. Watch for it in your local Garden Center. And the coffee beans in the vase below were a hit especially combined with the limes. I had a great suggestion that I will be putting together in the next day or two. It is going to be fun and amazing! Check back!

Introducing Garden Design from Garden House Floral

I am so excited to start this up! My true love and knowledge has always been around gardening, and being outdoors with live plants. I've had a few ah hah moments the past few months where I knew this was the direction I wanted to go. I will be keeping up on my floral business as well, it is what keeps me going year round so don't hesitate to call for flowers!

I am currently working on designing Vegetable Gardens for families, no matter what the space. All within the Salt Lake Valley. I will also consult with anyone interested in designing your flowerbeds, shrub and tree areas, also hardscapes and much more. I will work up my price list in the next week.

Now is the time to plant your Veggie Garden!
We start here.

A Vegetable Garden is one of the most fun gardens to grow. You get to harvest you hard work at the end of the season and even during the season. We are encouraged by our communities, and our church to grow some produce of our own. It is amazing what you can do with just a little space.
Above I have a very simple clear design I drew up for The Badger Family Garden, which I am lucky enough to be a part of in more than one way. We were able to lay everything out and plant this past weekend. We were one of the first few Gardens started in the area. This particular area has a community garden where families pay to reserve a Garden Plot to fit their family.

Below I researched and typed up common vegetables anyone would plant in their garden. I found out dates to plant, when the plants will reach maturity and other details in knowing how to plant each variety.

Below we have our Plot. It measure out to be about 30 feet by 4 feet wide. The soil was amazing! It shouldn't be hard to grow anything here. Wish us luck! More updates to come!

They call them Billy Balls.

The botanical name is craspedia, they are the yellow balls you often see in many arrangements. I love them. I love any kind of seed pod or berry that adds a different texture to my arrangements.

LaCaille Bridal Show

Pretty much the same set up, only different location in the building. She was set up right in front of the fireplace. It added such an ambiance. The flowers turned amazing with her cakes. Check out Christina's cakes!

Look closely and you'll see the coffee beans in the vase arrangement. Great way to add the chocolate brown color if your colors were pink and brown or green and brown.

Hey Everyone! Just a reminder, myself included, with these cold winter months ahead of us. Flowers can not handle being in the cold for long periods of time. I had these hydrangeas in a box outside for a couple minutes, not even thinking, and here ya go. Frost bitten. I was able to save most of the bunch, but I had no idea how fast these could freeze. I know especially Poinsettias are delicate, even with drafts in your home. Happy Holidays!
